One in nine Canadian women is expected to develop breast cancer in her lifetime. But the good news is that more women than ever are surviving thanks to the early detection of their cancer. That’s why we want you to know how important screening is to detecting breast cancer at its earliest stage. And if you have a Canadian Cancer Society Thingamaboob, you already know what we’re talking about.
The funky keychain features pink beads of varying lump sizes that can be detected through a variety of breast-screening methods. For instance, the smallest bead represents the average size lump found by getting regular mammograms while the largest bead represents the typical size lump found by women checking their own breasts.
Now, we want you to help us spread the word to even more women about the importance of breast screening, by sending a Boob-a-Gram to someone you care about! It could save her life.
And what is
a Boob-a-Gram?
Well, a Boob-a-Gram is an e-mailable message that you can send
out to an important woman in your life (or better yet, to all
of the important women in your life). It’s a lighthearted way
to remind her about the importance of breast screening and the
early detection of breast cancer.
For women age 50 plus, this means getting a mammogram and clinical
breast examination every two years—the most reliable methods
of finding breast cancer. Current evidence suggests that screening
can reduce breast cancer mortality in women 50-69 by as much
as 25 per cent if 70 per cent of them participated in organized
screening.
